SPOILER: Batman’s Fate in The Dark Knight Rises

“The Legend Ends”

That’s the WB’s selling point when it comes to their latest Bat flick The Dark Knight Rises, but what exactly does it mean?

We’ve pondered this thought a time or two here at the Chicago Dunlap offices of UTF. Will Bruce Wayne die? Will the symbol of Batman be utterly destroyed? Will Bruce Wayne die, while another hero assumes the mantle of Caped Crusader? What will happen!?!?!?!?

Well, a few weeks ago we revealed a potential spoiler when Christian Bale admitted that he’d sign on for a fourth flick, given that Nolan would return as the director. He couldn’t possibly continue to fight crime if he died in TDKR… right? Still, most of you remained convinced that Batman’s fate is uncertain, with a good lot of you believing Bruce Wayne will kick the proverbial bucket.

Here’s where it gets a bit SPOILERY, so if you want to retain your fanboy chastity, click back to the homepage and browse around one of our other lovely articles.

Now that the obligatory warning is out of the way…

In a recent episode of The Late Show, David Letterman hosted a very short haired Anne Hathaway as part of TDKR‘s marketing push. In their conversation, Davey revealed that he’s seen the latest Batman flick, and in the midst of his high praise, he revealed that Batman would survive his war with Bane…

“He’s not dead. He ain’t dead, just relax, will you.”

Well, that pretty much squashes all of this rampant speculation.

What do you guys think? Is it a proper ending? Or will it suck?

I for one am eagerly awaiting the film’s premier and I’ll wait to pass my sneering, over critical fanboy judgement until then.
