MISSY Might be the Best MASTER Yet!!

“Dark Water” finally revealed who Missy really was. Most people had surmised that she must be a Timelord, but they also seemed to overlook the most prominent Timelord of all, the Master. Having already established that Timelords can change gender it should have been obvious that Missy would turn out to be the Master. I have to admit however that I didn’t back my convictions, as though I always had my suspicions that Missy was the Master, I felt it was just too obvious. But why has Missy got the potential to be the best Master yet?

First and foremost I have to say that John Simm‘s Master was my personal favourite, and for the moment probably still is. Missy however has the potential to be the best Master yet, having already proven to be a very intriguing and mysterious character so far. Having fought the Doctor in many different forms over the show’s 50 years, Missy has the prior knowledge of where she went wrong in the past, having already used this to create a new type of strategy when facing the Doctor.

Missy has also proven to be a very resourceful character, as though the Master has proven himself to be a master manipulator, he always seems to come up a little short against the Doctor, with his tendency to sway too close to chaos ultimately being his undoing. It is however the amount of time put into this most recent attempt that makes Missy stand out as the ultimate strategist, as where the others have proven impatient, Missy has planned things in a calculative manor.

There is however one advantage that Missy has over the previous incarnations of the Master, and that’s the fact she’s a woman. Now before I get anyone jumping down my throat, I don’t in any way mean that in a sexist way. From a purely observational standpoint, the fact that Missy is a woman has given her so many advantages over the previous Master’s. Not only has her femininity allowed her to go stealthier before, but it has also allowed her to become even more manipulative, with the character sporting a somewhat innocent facade to people who don’t know who she really is.

This is however completely theoretical, as having limited knowledge of the character, in addition to not knowing how the Doctor will handle this new Master, things could turn completely different. I for one however hope that Missy will be a staple feature of Doctor Who for the long run, as we have really been in need of the Master…. or rather Mistress.

But what do you my fellow fanboys, fangirls and above all else Whovians think? Has Missy got the potential to be the best Master? Has she already proven this? Or is she not even in contention?
