Mark Hamill Will Play The Trickster Again on THE FLASH!

CW’s The Flash has made no qualms about bringing back actors from the short-lived 1990 series of The Flash. John Wesley Shipp, who played the Scarlet Speedster back then now plays Barry Allen’s father on the series, and Amanda Pays will reprise her role as Dr. Tina McGee on this Tuesday’s episode. Now it’s been announced that Mark Hamill (whose roles include Luke Skywalker and the voice of the Joker for an entire generation of fans) is returning to reprise his role as James Jesse aka The Trickster!

HitFix reports that while Hamill will return to play the role, the character will be different from what fans of the old series remember. The Trickster is described as “an anarchist terrorist con man serving a life sentence in Iron Heights who helps Barry (Grant Gustin) and Det. West (Jesse L. Martin) to foil the city-wide attacks of a wannabe Trickster eagerly following in the original’s deadly footsteps.”

Sounds like this wannabe Trickster will be none other than Axel Walker, the second (and current) Trickster from the comics. For those unaware, Walker was co-created by Geoff Johns (who is the executive producer for The Flash) and appeared during his run on the comic in 2002. After the original Trickster aka James Jesse quit being a supervillain to work for the FBI, Walker stole all of Jesse’s gadgets and patented ‘air shoes’ and became the new Trickster. He was eventually invited to join the Rogues, led by Captain Cold, which he happily accepted. Hopefully we’ll get to see both Tricksters duke it out on the small screen!

Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg says.

“Having Mark reprise his role as The Trickster was on our original wish list when we were planning our version of The Flash. Christmas and Chanukah came early for us this year when he said yes! We are beyond humbled and excited to have him joining us for another round of deadly trickery!”
