GROO: FRIENDS AND FOES #1 Review

The lovable dumb Viking is back with a new series that explores the world of Groo in fantastical ways. Read on to find out more.

The official description from Dark Horse:

Each month of this yearlong series, Groo and his faithful pooch, Rufferto, encounter a different acquaintance–or enemy–with the usual dire consequences! In #1, Groo crosses paths with Captain Ahax, the seaman with the world record for most ships sunk by the all-time stupidest character in comics! Brought to you by the award-winning team of Sergio Aragonés and Mark Evanier!

groofrifon1p1Groo is always a silly character but he is usually pretty entertaining and this new series seems to be like that. We have our character Groo feeling a little under appreciated so he decided that it time to leave and find his friends that care about him but there is an ocean in the way. Groo sees his old friend Captain Ahax, who is not too happy to see him because he sunk the last ship. Groo asks the captain if he can join the ship to a get a ride. Ahax is apprehensive but he devises a plan that will make him rich when, he thinks, Groo will destroy the ship. This is when hilarity ensues. You have to check this out because some of the things that happen are pretty cool. My only complaint is that there wasn’t enough Groo involved but it was still fun.

Mark Evanier knows how to write humor in a great way. The, overall, story is pretty good and has some great punch line moments. I think you should check it out, even thought there wasn’t enough Groo.

Sergio Aragonés continues to have great art and a great eye for humor. His work is busy and full of fantastic moments of reactions and all around goofiness. You will see what I mean when you check it out.

Groo: Friends and Foes #1 is a fun and silly chapter in the Groo saga.
