So far for the CW’s Flash pilot, we have the hero, mentor and possible villains cast. Well, rest easy: we now have the love interest cast as well. Deadline is reporting that The Game‘s Candice Patton will be playing Irist West in the upcoming Flash pilot. West was described in the casting information as “an African-American in the 22 to 28 year age range” who is ” Barry’s mile a minute, fast-talking, quick-witted best friend.” Barry also has feeling for Iris, but she doesn’t know.

Patton joins Grant Gustin, who debuted on Arrow in December, Jesse L. Martin, who will play her Iris’ father detective West, and Rick Cosnett and Danielle Panabaker, who will play Detective Eddie Thawne and Caitlin Snow respectively. Production on The Flash pilot will begin production in Vancouver in March. The pilot will pick up after the Arrow episode “Three Ghosts” where Barry witnessed the Central City particle accelerator exploding and a minute later was struck by lighting in his lab and knocked back into the lab’s chemicals. As of the Arrow episode “Blast Radius,” Barry has been in a coma since the accident.

I haven’t seen any of Patton’s work, so hopefully she’ll play the role well. I’m hoping they keep Iris as a reporter for the pilot. She may not be as famous of a female journalist as Lois lane, but she’s just as tenacious, and it would be interesting to see her be a source of information for Barry for his crime-fighting crusade, although I doubt Iris will know at first what Barry is doing with the information.
