ADVANCE REVIEW! Monomyth #2

Can Monomyth continue to do enough to make you part with your cash? Read on to find out.

The official description from OSSM Comics:

After the first murder in Eden history occurs, Enoch heads into the darkness for revenge, with Lucifer and others in pursuit. Not wanting his plans derailed, Michael sends his army to Eden as he attacks the boy. Will Lucifer arrive in time to save Enoch? Michael vs. Lucifer, Round 2!

MONO_2_Print_Ready_r3-6Monomyth really blew me away with it’s opening issue, with this story of Lucifer and Michael told in reverse proving tantalisingly intriguing. This issue strengthens them feelings tenfold, with the destructive force that Michael brings to Eden being very thrilling. In addition to this we also get a terrific look into both Michael, and Enoch’s past, giving more depth to this tale.

Siike Donnelly has proven himself to be a great writer, with Monomyth being better than some of the work that both Marvel and DC are producing. Despite being a little too quick of pace at times, Donnelly manages to create a very enticing tale, with the emotion and suspense oozing out. One thing that did worry me about this issue was whether the background would take away from the main story (which is only a three parter). These were however quickly squashed, with the remainder of the issue having enough enough action and drama for several issues worth.

Eric Ninaltowski impresses me even more with his art on this issue, as though there are still some stiff moments, the general atmosphere throughout is much more intense. A lot of this has to go down to his marvellous layouts, with the dramatic flow having an almost cinematic vibe to it. Additionally, the epic action, and detailed scenery also helps liven things up, with most sequence being very striking. Peejay Catacutan and Teo Gonzalez also deliver astonishing colours, with the mixture of dark and light tones giving a vibrant finish to Ninaltowski’s work.

Monomyth continues to be a must have, and with only one issue left I can only speculate how well it’ll end. Highly recommended.
