WORLD OF WARCRAFT Movie Gets A Writer

It seems like this project is still set to carry on, despite the loss of previous director Sam Raimi, Legendary Pictures have announced that writer Charles Leavitt (Blood Diamond, K-PAX and upcoming The Seventh Son) will be penning the screenplay. Leavitt is known for immersing himself in his research, so surely this adaptation should stay very faithful to the source material that fans cherish so much. There’s no announcement of plot details or a release date but it seems the earliest it could arrive is 2014.

Hopefully this news will give the project some momentum again, allowing them to find another director to helm it. Activision-Blizzard chief Bobby Kotick told Variety “They’re very excited about having a ‘World of Warcraft’ film. They’ve been very careful and thoughtful about the development process.”

Legendary have got their hands full at the moment with “Jack the Giant Killer,” “The Hangover Part III,” “Man of Steel,” “Pacific Rim,” “300: Battle of Artemisia” and “Seventh Son,” not to mention the collaboration with Bioware in bringing Mass Effect to the big screen. Let’s hope this one doesn’t get lost in the shuffle.
