Captain America: The Winter Soldier, if critics are correct, may be the best Marvel solo film. Audiences seem to believe this, as Winter Soldier has grossed big money – just on Thursday night!
The hit summer blockbuster made $10.2 million in just one night! Impressive, even beating out the Thursday night grosses for Man of Steel, the second Hobbit film, and Thor: The Dark World, which grossed $9 million, $8.8 million, and $7.1 million, respectively. Many box office analysts think that Winter Soldier has a chance of cracking $90-$100 mil opening weekend, which would give it the record for highest opening weekend for an April film EVER!
The second Captain America film has, however, already broken at least one record: Fandango reported that the political-thriller was the top-selling April title it had ever seen, passing Fast Five. The film has also already opened over-seas, where it has earned over $100 million. The film is set to make over double what the first film made!
Meanwhile, the debate rages on as to which CBM sequel, Captain America 3, or Batman/Superman, will gross higher. With the Winter Soldier‘s box-office success, Marvel fans may have some new ammo.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which officially opens today, is the sequel to the 2011 Captain America film, and is the ninth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film, as of this writing, has an 88% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The film stars Chris Evans as the Captain America, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie as Falcon, Samuel Jackson as Nick Fury, Robert Redford as Alexander Pierce, and many others. The film was directed by the Russo brothers, and scored by Henry Jackman (X-Men: First Class, Captain Phillips).
I’m not gonna ask if you’ll see this film. If you’re reading this website, you probably are. Instead, I’ll ask you if you think this film will crack a billion! Sound off below!
