Steven Spielberg Says ‘No’ to STAR WARS

You may have seen a news article on our site from a couple days ago (click here to read it) with a rumored list of directors for the forthcoming Star Wars trilogy. Sadly we found out at least one of three that might have been apparently up for the job has no intention of touching his longtime friend’s work.

In an interview with Access Holloywood Steven Spielberg had this to say on the subject:

No! No!  It’s not my genre.  It’s my best friend George’s genre.

So there you have it guys, that’s one name you can certainly cross off the fantasy list.  I honestly felt like the director would have made an excellent fit considering his history with the science fiction genre.  But he does make a solid point since he hasn’t really dabbled in the type of Sci-Fi / Fantasy usually associated with the Star Wars universe.

But what do you guys think of this?  Do you respect his decision or do you think he’s making a gigantic mistake?  Now that he’s out of the running who would like to see direct the movie?  Sound off with your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.

Star Wars: Episode VII is still targeting a 2015 release.
