Shadow of the Colossus film to be Written by Seth Lochhead

The upcoming video game-based film, Shadow of the Colossus, now has a new writer: Seth Lochhead. Lochhead previously penned the script for the 2011 film Hanna. The film is being released by Sony Pictures.

The original video game, which was published by Sony Computer Entertainment, was released for the PlayStation 2 back in October 2005. The game was met with almost universally positive reception, with many critics calling it an art form in itself. The game has received numerous awards, including “Best Game Design”, “Best Character Design”, “Game of the Year”, and “Best Original Music”.

The game was directed by Fumito Ueda, and composed by Kow Otani (Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, Outlaw Star, the Gamera Trilogy). In September 2011, Shadow of the Colossus and Ico, which are said to be in the same continuity, were both re-released for the PlayStation 3 in a collection set. In the game, a young man named Wander travels the land defeating creatures called colossi in order to save the life of a woman.

The film’s first script was written by Justin Marks (Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li). The film is being directed by Josh Trank (Chronicle).

Anyway, it is always cool to see video game adaptions in the works…even if most of them turn out to be sub-par. But in this case, the production team seems pretty solid; we could have a winner here.
