Prometheus Scribe To Reboot The Mummy Franchise

Variety has broken the news that Prometheus scribe Jon Spaihts has been tapped by Universal to write the reboot of The Mummy franchise, which starred Brendan Fraser.

“I see it as the sort of opportunity I had with Prometheus: to go back to a franchise’s roots in dark, scary source material, and simultaneously open it up to an epic scale we haven’t seen before,” said Spaihts.

Spaihts is only writing with Sean Daniels producing, so who is directing is currently unknown at this point. But it’s undeniable that Spaihts is really breaking his way into Hollywood at the moment. As well as writing Prometheus, he’s currently writing World War Robot and an untitled sci-fi epic for producer Jerry Bruckheimer, and he also wrote The Darkest Hour for Summit Entertainment.
