The cast for Neill Blomkamp’s sci-fi action-comedy Chappie is slowly coming together. As news of yet another high profile addition to the film. TheHollywoodReporter reveals that Alien franchise actress Sigourney Weaver has taken an unknown part in the movie. Weaver was last scene in genre films such as Paul (which has a similar premise) and Cabin In The Woods. The film will take place in South Africa which was the setting for Blomkamp’s debut film District 9. It focuses on a robot named Chappie who is kidnapped then adopted by street criminals. This likely won’t effect Weaver’s possible participation in The ExpendaBelles as production on Chappie is currently underway in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Playing the criminals are none other than notorious South African rap stars Ninja and Yolandi Visser, of the group Die Antwoord. Ninja along with Eminem were originally considered for the role of Max in Elysium before Matt Damon took the lead. The rest of the cast includes Shatlo Copely (District 9, Elysium, Old Boy) voicing and doing motion capture for Chappie the robot. While Hugh Jackman (Prisoners, The Wolverine) and Dev Patel (Newsroom, Slumdog Millionaire) will have supporting roles as well. It will be interesting to see how dark of a comedy Neill will aiming for with this film. The script based on the short Tetra Vaal was co-written by Neill and Terri Tatchell.
