My Most Anticipated Marvel Studios Production….

The Avengers

Let me start by saying; yeah I can not wait for the Avengers, it is going to make cinematic history, and in my opinion it is shaping up to be a Summer Blockbusting extravaganza (Stan Lee himself would be proud of that word play). But for as much fun as the Avengers looks to be (especially if the rumoured 2 and a half hour run time is true) it is not my most anticipated Marvel Studios production.

Nope, not Thor 2 either… or Iron Man 3…. or the inevitable Captain America sequel.

No.

My most anticipated production is A.K.A Jessica Jones, the proposed TV series based on Brian Michael Bendis’ Alias series. I love reading about superheroes, but even since a young age I have been more drawn to both the street level heroes and the stories that focus on normal people living in this amazing world. The comic series Alias, despite having a protagonist with powers, was very much in this vein. Jessica Jones is a retired superhero who has no interest in donning spandex and fighting crime, it’s her normality that really grounds the story despite her dealing very much in the superheros world and for me makes her a far more relatable protagonist than an alien teen from another planet ever could be… I won’t ruin any plot points as it really is a great series (I’m not so sure the same can be said for it’s follow up ‘The Pulse’ however which got confusing with too many tie ins to Marvel events) which everyone should check out.

Jessica Jones

There is also something to be said for the medium of TV, the story can progress slower than a movie without jumping from set piece to set piece and gives the opportunity to really take the time to develop characters (at least when it’s done well). But more importantly than that, it is a chance for us to get to see some of our favourite Marvel heroes that can’t hold their own movie. Whilst I personally maintain that a Heroes for Hire movie featuring the odd couple team up of Luke Cage and Iron Fist, would make a brilliant super hero buddy cop style movie, it doesn’t seem like it is going to happen. A.K.A Jessica Jones however is perfect to showcase both of them, with Luke Cage being an essential part of Jessica’s story, as well as others such as Shang Chi, Mrs Marvel etc… And once you think about future cross over potential with the cinematic universe, maybe Agent Coulson guest appearance or even Tony Starks (more unlikely), or the TV heroes later showing up on the big screen (possibly the only way to have enough heroes for Civil War to make sense) it starts to get exciting!

Heroes for Hire - Danny Rand aka Iron Fist and Luke Cage

The potential is most certainly there, now lets hope they can realise it!

Are you looking forward to the possible A.K.A Jessica Jones TV series? What Marvel heroes would you like to appear that may never see the silver screen?
