Mary Jane Gets Recast For THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3

Two days ago, the huge news hit that Shailene Woodley’s part as Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 had been cut from the film, and instead the character’s storyline would be moved over to the third installment. Woodley had only 3 scenes in the film, so really a glorified cameo, and throughout her filming she was heavily criticized by fans for ‘not being hot enough’, or, ‘she doesn’t look the part’ etc.

It was then reported that Woodley was in fact getting recast for the third movie (with a June 2016 release date), but not because of criticism, but because she’s part of a pretty big upcoming Hunger Games-esque young adult franchise-started, Divergent which is pretty much guaranteed for the sequels – that would clash with more Spider-Man movies.

MovieWeb posted an article last night exclusively saying that Canadian actress Sarah Gadon had already been cast as Mary Jane Watson before the news of Woodley’s dropout became official however several fans dismissed it as BS, and The Wrap’s Jeff Sneider tweeted that it’s “not true”.

If you think she’s hot, you’ll be happy with this news. Adding another piece to the puzzle, Entertainment Tonight Canada tweeted that Gadon HAS in fact joined the franchise, but doesn’t say whether she’s playing Mary Jane…

It’s incredibly likely this is our new MJ. She certainly looks the part, however I haven’t seen any of her work (you can check her out in Cosmopolis). It’s a damn shame Woodley’s out since she’s a fantastic actress and got way too much hate. Now comes the part where we try and figure out whether director Marc Webb really did drop her due to “creative decisions” or whether some of the fan backlash came into play.

What do you think? Is Sarah Gadon right for MJ? Share your thoughts below.
