John Stewart Or Cyborg Might Be Joining BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN

Gather around, everyone. It’s time to once again board the Batman vs. Superman Rumor Express. This trip comes courtesy of frequent contributor Latino Review. According to writer El Mayimbe, the Man of Steel sequel production is looking for “a black actor in his early 20s who is also physically fit.” However, this isn’t just a bit part they’re casting for: the role will be recurring in future DC Cinematic Universe movies. Mayimbe also points out that the role only shoots for a couple days.

I will reiterate that this is just a rumor and that there’s no confirmation whether this actor is playing a superhero, villain or non-powered supporting character. However, if I were to speculate (and as a fan there’s nothing I love more), there’s two characters I can think of that are important to warrant a recurring role, taking specific note on the “physically fit” part of the casting description.

The first is John Stewart, a.k.a. one of Earth’s Green Lanterns. Stewart’s name has been thrown around in regards to this movie, with actors like Denzel Washington and The Rock being rumored to play him. If Stewart ends up appearing, it’s possible that they’re setting him up to become Green Lantern in a Justice League film. Regardless of if the DCU is connected to the 2011 Green Lantern film or not, this would mean Hal Jordan is most likely out on his ass.

The other possibility is that he’ll be playing Victor Stone, a.k.a. Cyborg. Although Cyborg has been a fixture in the DC Universe since 1980, his role has become more prominent since he was promoted to founding Justice League member at the start of the New 52 relaunch in 2011. Since then, he has also been given main roles in the animated movies Justice League: Doom, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox and Justice League: War. With his new popularity, along with the S.T.A.R. Labs cameo in Man of Steel, Warner Bros. and DC could be setting Cyborg up for a Justice League appearance. If that happens, much like the New 52, it’s probably going to cost Martian Manhunter his spot on the League.

Of course, there are many possibilities for the role. El Mayimbe speculates it might even be Dick Grayson. That would definitely be a physically demanding role and would line up with rumors of Nightwing appearing alongside Batman. I’ll say this though, if this character is being set up for a superhero role, this movie might as well be called Justice League: The Prologue.
