James Gunn Tops Shortlist To Direct GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY!

Well, this is certainly a surprising choice! The Hollywood Reporter have just broke the news that James Gunn (Super) has topped a shortlist of directors for Marvel’s upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy and he is in negotiations to direct with the studio. There are other left-field choices on the shortlist, including Peyton Reed (Yes Man) and another duo – after the Russo brothers for Captain America: The Winter Soldier – Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden, the pair behind some movie called Half Nelson.

The site go on to say that execs liked the director’s ability to mix comedy, action and horror elements together, similar to Joss Whedon. Gunn is no stranger to comic book movies – he directed the 2011 low-budget Kick-Ass-like comedy Super, which has a 47% rotten score on Rotten Tomatoes. He also wrote Dawn of the Dead and the two live-action Scooby Doo movies, which were pretty shit.
