HULK in THOR: RAGNAROK…? Excuse Me?

Last week or whenever news broke that Marvel was in talks with Taika Waititi to direct Thor: Ragnarok, which will be thundering its way into theaters November 3rd, 2017. Not much is known about the threequel except the obvious: it’ll deal with the classic Norse apocalypse known as Ragnarok where everything dies and then begins anew, as well as Loki secretly ruling Asgard. However, this new rumor fucks that all up. Apparently, Hulk will be a supporting character in the movie.

Wait, what?

JoBlo reports that Mark Ruffalo will defininitely be appearing in the movie in a fully-fledged role – not just a little post-credits cameo. The plot will also deal with a “distant planet that is not Asgard and not Earth.” Planet Hulk, anyone?

Marvel never do straight-up adaptations of their comics, although I fail to see how Hulk could possibly fit into the Twilight of the Gods. Those guys are reputable, so I don’t doubt this either. What it looks like to me is the studio finding a way to shoehorn the Big Green Gamma Giant somewhere in Phase III before Infinity War (James Gunn won’t do it) and get people interested in the God of Thunder’s solo outings. Both the original and The Dark World made bank but they didn’t exactly set the fans or critics on fire like the Iron Man or Cap movies have done.

There’s also the small matter that Loki is the true star of these movies, and Marvel may want to add some emphasis on Thor to remind people that these are his movies. But the way to do that probably isn’t by putting lots of attention on a completely unrelated Avenger.

It’s just very weird and I’m not sure how I feel about it. I mean, it could work, and I trust Marvel, but I would much rather see something completely focused on Thor and Asgard rather than other Avengers popping up. We’ll see how it pans out.

But hey, what do you guys think? Are you hyped for a much-needed rematch between the God of Thunder and the Incredible Hulk after the fight was cut short in The Avengers?! A rematch that would be in space?!?!
