Hugh Jackman Would Like Tom Hardy to Play WOLVERINE?!

It’s a sad day when Hugh Jackman officially leaves his character Wolverine in the X-Men franchise which happens to be sooner than we’d like. An iconic character which has been a part of him for 17 years. I honestly don’t blame him, he’s played that character for so long that it’s been a good run for him. Hugh Jackman was always my Wolverine, which sounds weird, but you know what I mean. It is time, but he will be missed playing one of the beloved characters in X-Men.

There has been some debate on who will and who can replace Hugh Jackman, and none other than Mr. Jackman himself had his input on the perfect actor that could take over and do well as Wolverine. He will eventually be replaced, but Hugh Jackman revealed to MTV UK that he has a person in mind who would be good for the role as Wolverine in his opinion.

“He’s younger than me for sure. I think Tom Hardy would be a great Wolverine.”

When asked what he thought about the whole leaving situation, he responded with,

“I haven’t really given it a lot of thought. I’ve been asked that question a lot, and I’m always like, ‘I don’t wanna make it too easy on the studio to replace me,’ you know? I’ve still got one more to do. I’m sure they’re already talking about it, and there’s some actor [they’ve told] ‘shh, keep it quiet but we want you next.’”

There are different possibilities for how Hardy – or another actor – could jump into the role. As we all know, time travel was introduced in 2014’s Days of Future Past so there is always a chance that could be involved, or a completely different in-story solution could be brought in. Or they just won’t explain the change at all.

There has been no word from either Fox on if they would consider Tom, or from the man himself to see if he is even interested in the role. However, that hasn’t stopped fans from experimenting with a potential look; Bosslogic tweeted out some brilliant fan art they put together of Hardy as Wolvie.

Pretty neat, huh?

On another note, Jackman also chatted a bit about Wolverine 3.

“This will be my last one. It is my last… it felt like it was the right time to do it. And, let’s be honest, 17 years? I never thought in a million years it would last this long. I’m so grateful to the fans and for the opportunity of playing him, and I love it. I kind of have, in my head, what we’re going to do in this last one, and it just feels like this is the perfect way to go out.”

Very well said Mr. Jackman, well said.

Wolverine 3 is out in theaters on March 3rd, 2017, preceded by X-Men: Apocalypse on May 27th, 2016.
