Hooray! Michael Bay Confirms The TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Won’t Be Aliens

About a year ago, the widely-hated director/producer Michael Bay revealed that the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, directed by Jonathan Liebesman and carrying a title with no ‘Teenage’ or ‘Mutant’, revealed that in the new movie the Turtles would in fact be from an alien race. Understandably, there was a massive outcry from fans all across the internet, threatening to boycott the movie and more.

Then the script leaked.

My God, it was morbid. I expected far better from the writers of the critically-acclaimed Ghost Protocol, and this was… Awful. Paramount quickly took it down, but not before everyone and their grandmother read it and gave their thoughts. Bay and Liebesman then slunk back to the drawing board and began re-working the plot.

Since, the movie has been given a May 2014 release date, with filming already going on. The film is (apparently) now called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and has got a cast. One bad-turned-good thing to tick off left… Are they still aliens? Well, in a recent interview with Moviefone, Bay had this to say…

There was that quote saying that we’re making [the Ninja Turtles as] aliens. We’re not. It’s the ooze! It’s from the original source material. These are from the original writers, and I never went out to correct myself in the press. I do listen to the fans and I do want this to be authentic. I think they’re going to be really happy with this movie. When I see the digital stuff, the turtles look great.

You can all breathe a collective sigh of relief now. While Bay was definitely not misquoted, it doesn’t matter any more – I’m slightly less worried about the film now. Granted, the fact that this movie is carrying the non-talent of Jonathan Liebesman (Wrath of the Titant), Megan Fox and Michael Bay is really the only reason I still have no faith in this movie.
