Hobgoblin and Others Mentioned in Daily Bugle Viral

The latest Daily Bugle viral article for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 sounds like a typical editorial from its longtime publisher J. Jonah Jameson. But all the little Easter Eggs of info in it make it worth the read. First off, the article’s writer is none other than Ned Leeds, a reporter who was brainwashed by Roderick Kingsley (aka the original Hobgoblin) into becoming the Hobgoblin for a short period. It’s also worth mentioning that in the comics, he was often Peter Parker’s (aka Spider-Man) rival for the affections of Betty Brant. I wouldn’t worry too much about that connection since Peter seems to be focused on Gwen Stacy, at least until a certain goblin throws her off a bridge.

Curt Connors

The article is about Dr. Curt Connors (aka The Lizard), and his upcoming trial. His attack on New York that took place in The Amazing Spider-Man has not gone unnoticed and the fallout may actually be shown in the upcoming sequel. When I began to read about his legal defense, I hoped it would be Matt Murdock (aka Daredevil). I was wrong in this aspect but not disappointed, as Connors’ lawyer is Anne Weying, the woman who married Eddie Brock (aka Venom) and for a time became She-Venom.

Finally, Donald Menken, a very loyal (and lying) Oscorp employee gave a statement denying any involvement with Connors and his transformation. Sounds pretty normal when it comes to articles about corporations, but I’m glad they’re making an effort to use actual characters from the Marvel universe and not create new ones. I don’t know what excites me more, the name-dropping, the dedication to realism, or just the idea of a female Venom! I’ll choose all three and wait for more news!
