Guardians of the Galaxy will Begin Filming This Summer

Marvel’s upcoming sci-fi epic Guardians of the Galaxy will begin filming sometime this Summer. The filming will take place at Shepperton Studios in England, where Thor: The Dark World also filmed key scenes.

Guardians of the Galaxy, based on the Marvel Comics, follows the adventures of a group of space heroes who fight evil aliens and the like. In the film, the group consists of Drax the Destroyer, Groot, Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, and Gamora. No official casting news has been released, but various actors have been announced to be in the running to play Star-Lord, including Jack Huston (Richard Harrow in Boardwalk Empire), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (John Blake in The Dark Knight Rises), and Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor in Smallville, Flash in Justice League/Unlimited).

Guardians of the Galaxy will be directed by James Gunn (Super), and will be released August 1, 2014, after Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It will be the 10th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I think the film will be epic (even more so if Thanos truly is the antagonist), and I believe that this will be the first Marvel film to take place mostly in the vast reaches of space. Could this be Marvel’s answer to Star Wars?
