Guardians Of The Galaxy Pushed Back To August 2014

This isn’t at all surprising to me. BoxOfficeMojo reveal that Marvel/Disney have pushed back the release date of their untitled 2014 movie (which is reportedly Guardians of the Galaxy) back three months from May 16 to August 1. To me, this all but confirms that the movie is in fact about the Galaxy’s Mightiest Heroes. It would be a foolish decision from Marvel to open something like Guardians of the Galaxy, which will be an extremely hard sell to the general audience (there’s a freaking talking racoon!), and while WE know that these characters are awesome, do they?

Having it open in August shows that Marvel are once again experimenting with the summer movie formula and testing their own release date plan. Also, if the studio had kept the planned release date then it would be opening directly against Ninja Turtles, two weeks after The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and a week before Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Obviously, a wise move.

We’ll find out if the mystery movie is Guardians of the Galaxy or not next week at SDCC, but for now do you think it’s a good idea to push the movie back? Sound off below.
