Gary Ross Has NOT Left Catching Fire

The HUnger Games

Contrary to recent reports, it seems that The Hunger Games director Gary Ross has not withdrawn from the movie’s sequel Catching Fire. Deadline report that their sources tell them Ross has not officially left the project yet, and is away on a family vacation so cannot be reached. Along with that being somewhat false, it seems the apparent “stand-off” between Fox and Lionsgate over who gets Jennifer Lawrence (who plays a lead role in both of the studios’ franchise’s) to be in their respective movies first is also untrue. Fox had a deal with Lawrence a long time before she signed on to play titular character Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games, putting Fox first in the race. Since the Catching Fire script has already been completed, Fox allowed them to go first.

Even if Ross does leave the project, it is definately not a financial reason. Deadline say that it would make no sense for Ross to leave the franchise, as it is his most successful movie, and his previous movies haven’t exactly been a financial success. So don’t worry Hunger Games fans, the director will likely helm the second installment in the popular book franchise. What are your thoughts on this? Sound off in the comments below.
