Fantastic Four Director Chosen, but We Want J.J.

It looks like Fox has decided who they want to direct their reboot of Fantastic Four, and he goes by the name of Josh Trank. If that doesn’t quite sound familiar, don’t worry, he’s not exactly a ‘known’ figure in the film industry yet. But that will all change when his ‘found footage’ superhero flick Chronicle debuts later next month. Already garnering a lot of buzz, that film follows a group of teenagers who have suddenly been endowed with powers and how those gifts eventually turns one of them towards ‘evil’. It’s already being touted as one of the most original movies to ever come out of the genre, but Fox is still waiting to see the movie’s returns before officially awarding Trank the keys to the proverbial FF castle.

I’m not gonna lie…Trank looks like he’d be a great candidate for the reboot, but he’s not exactly the one I had in mind. I’m sure this will sound like a bunch of fanboy favoritism, but I think J.J. Abrams would be the best director for the flick. His work on MI:3, Super 8, and Star Trek were some of the best action and Sci-Fi movies of the last ten years. His body of works screams for a chance to direct the Fantastic Four. Now, Abrams himself might be disinterested in the project, and I don’t blame him. He’s used to having a certain measure of control over his project, and I’m sure Fox wouldn’t allow that…but still. Abrams is the perfect guy for the project in my mind.
