Lots of actors have either been linked for rumored for roles in J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII. A new rumor points to this year’s breakout actor Chitwetel Ejiofor. JediNews is connecting the dots from a recent Times report, that Ejiofor meet with the director. There is an assumption that he could be up for a major role in the seventh installment. This could be the part that both Michael B. Williams and David Oyelowo were auditioning for. It’s unknown but it’s possible it could be a Jedi. I also wouldn’t rule out the son of Lando. Since the focus of the new trilogy will be the Skywalker kids.

Chiwetel has been the fanboy radar for quite sometime. Thanks to roles in Joss Whedon’s Serenity, which help launch a fan campaign to get him cast as Black Panther. Benedict Cumberbatch has been named by LatinoReview as locked-in for Episode VII, has a supporting role in Chiwetel’s 12 Years A Slave. Alfonso Cuaron (Gravity) had been linked by MarketSaw to direct Episode VII and Episode VIII (still a possible contender). Ejiofor had a well sized role in Cuaron’s bleak sci-fi thriller Children of Men. It would be interesting to see Chiwetel in whatever role. He’s got a strong screen presence and will likely be making a huge splash during the awards season. I do hope we get to see Lando’s son in the film. Either as a high ranking military officer or a powerful politician. However, something tells me he could also take the route of a smuggler.
