Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman and Superman: Brainiac Attacks to be Released on Blu-Ray

Two DCAU DTV films will be getting their HD Blu-Ray release after years of waiting. Warner Home Video will be releasing Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman and Superman: Brainiac Attacks on Blu-Ray. They will both be released March 12th, 2013.

Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman was originally released on DVD October 2003, and later made its TV debut on Cartoon Network’s Toonami block. It was the third animated film based off Batman: The Animated Series. The film was written by Michael Reaves (Batman Beyond).

Superman: Brainiac Attacks was originally released on DVD June 2006, and also made its TV debut on Cartoon Network’s Toonami block. It was the first film based off Superman: The Animated Series.

At first glance, one might assume that this would be big news, but not so. In fact, many fans are puzzled why Warner Bros. would even bother giving these films the Blu-Ray treatment. Superman: Brainiac Attacks got possibly the worst reception of any product set in the DCAU, with fans complaining about the simple plot, bad dialogue, boring fights, and the re-casting of characters such as Lex Luthor and Brainiac.

Meanwhile, Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman, while it didn’t get the downright negative reception that Brainiac Attacks got, didn’t get the same critical acclaim that Mask of the Phantasm, Sub-Zero, or Return of the Joker had. But whatever. I’m sure that at least Brainiac Attacks will sell, thanks to Man of Steel.
