Erik Selvig, Marvel’s Nutty Doctor, Returning For AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

Avengers: Age of Ultron may have recruited some new players, both good and bad, but there’s still room for familiar faces to drop by as well, whether it’s former SHIELD personnel like Maria Hill or best friend extrordinaire like Rhodey, and now we have someone from the world of science. While speaking to Empire Magazine on how he joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, actor Stellan Skarsgård revealed that he will be reprising his role as Dr. Erik Selvig in the upcoming sequel.

…But you sign on for at least five films, I think. Or I did. I’m going to do my fourth. I’m going to be in Avengers: Age Of Ultron, a small appearance. It’s something really nice. Even if it’s owned by Disney now, it’s really run by four or five people, and they know exactly what they’re doing. I like working with them because if I have a problem with the scene, I have Kevin Feige’s number. I can call the head of the studio. You can’t do that when you work on a normal Disney film or with Warner Bros or Paramount.

While he didn’t reveal what his role in the film would be, he did point out that his character is usually called in to explain something, so perhaps he’ll Skarsgard also joked that he would be reprising a gag from Thor: The Dark World and go nude…or maybe it wasn’t a joke.

Yeah, I was naked again. They called my agent and said, ‘Do you think Stellan will mind being naked?’ My agent laughed his head off. Yeah, I almost insist! Sometimes with a contract you get a nudity clause, which is fantastic. It’s supposed to protect me from having my genitals exploited, which I doubt anybody would make a dime on.

Suddenly I have this picture in my head of Selvig running around Avengers Tower sans clothes with Tony Stark and Bruce Banner trying to corral him back into one of the labs.

Maybe the Science Bros could become the Science Trio.

As one of the new original characters in the MCU, I’m glad they’re letting Selvig stick around. He may be “slightly” unhinged after Loki’s mind control, but he’s still a tremendous asset to our heroes. Plus, if Thor did indeed break up with Jane Foster after Thor: The Dark World, he’ll need Selvig as his wingman at the bars. After, the two of them had fun together the last time they went drinking. Just imagine the antics they’ll get up to now that Selvig’s off his rocker.
