Assassin’s Creed Film Adaption Gains Writer

For video game fans who have been hoping for that Assassin’s Creed film to actually move forward, well, I suppose this should be a start. Michael Leslie, a playwright from Britain, has been chosen by New Regency and Ubisoft to pen the upcoming video game adaption. The interesting part is: Mr. Leslie has never written a theatrical film script before; this will be his first.

The Assassin’s Creed movie adaption was announced back in October 2011 by Variety, and the film was last scheduled to begin filming sometime in 2013, and will be released in 3D. The film will star Michael Fassbender (Magneto in X-Men: First Class), who will also produce the movie.

The Assassin’s Creed video game series, which is published by Ubisoft, began in 2007, with the first game being released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and the PC. The game received critical acclaim, receiving various awards, including “Best Action Game”, “Best PS3 Graphics”, and “Best PS3 Game”. The game spawned sequels, prequels, and various comic tie-ins. The latest game in the series, Assassin’s Creed III was released for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC in Winter 2012. The game was written by Corey May (Prince of Persia).

Ubisoft is also planning a film adaption for their Splinter Cell video game series. To be honest, it can be hard to tell whether any of these film adaptions will come to light, since Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia film didn’t make waves or anything.
