A SMALLVILLE MAN — You Need to Watch This Short!

Have you ever wanted to see Superman summed up in under five minutes? If so an animatic by artist Mauricio Abril has hit the interwebs and it does just that, as it details the Last Son of Krypton.

YouTube Description:

“A Smallville Man” is my animatic film featuring an original Superman story told in over 150 illustrations set against the aural backdrop of the song “Walk” by the American Rock band Foo Fighters.

The only negative aspect about this, in my opinion, is that some of the transitions were a bit abrupt but that’s just nitpicking at this point! The talent built a believable narrative that hit the right notes. In my mind the five minute investment is well spent as A Smallville Man – A Superman short film set to “Walk” by the Foo Fighters took me on a journey down memory lane.

It made me think about the first time I saw the big blue boy-scout and what the character has meant to me over the years. Sure he’s often times mishandled by various creative teams and his power level makes him seem unreachable but there’s something about the titan that’s always struck a cord with the masses and I honestly think that this video summed up why.

But what say you? Did Mauricio Abril do justice to the character? Or was this a super fail?
