Trish Out Of Water Banner

After an awesome start does the positive current continue to hold steady in this second outing?  Read on to find out.

The official description from Aspen:

What would you do if your life was turned upside down– before it even really started?

After the shocking and life-altering discovery in her home, and the subsequent reveal that her boyfriend was cheating on her behind her back, Trish quickly realized that her life will never truly be the same. However, the discovery that she may be something altogether more amazing will lead to even further questions than she could have ever imagined – including who is now out to kill her!

Trish Out of Water 2_CThe world, for our protagonist, has been forever changed by events that are, apparently, beyond her control.  As this opening arc quickens pace, her reactions envelope all of the players in this tale as a detective, chock-full of conspiracy theories. comes into play.

Vince Hernandez pens the script and the seasoned literary master builds on the foundation of the previous release, by not only expanding the cast but also taking the time to play with the individuals already revealed.  There’s an argument to be made that the bulk of the story ignores the secondary players as it  rushes to tell the greater narrative, but in my opinion it’s necessary, as the yarn rests squarely on the young shoulders of Trish.  It’s her experiences that make or break this jaunt, and because of that we get to see something that’s both familiar but also unique.

The art by Giuseppe Cafaro is just as skilled as his previous works.  Crafting a new, but unexpected, visual corner for the Fathom universe calls for familiar designs and some new ones.  As it stand on its own, the illustrator builds enough detail and stye to cement the reality as a bold property breathes life into the franchise.  The renditions found here meld with the written word and ultimately excel beyond them.

Trish Out of Water #2 is a great comic book that impresses on so many wonderful levels.  From beginning to end it easily earns my praise. Recommended.
