The Answer! #4 Review

The conclusion to this mini-series is here, but does it deliver a quality finish?  Read on to find out.

The official description from Dark Horse:

A mind is a terrible thing to waste. Can Devin and the Answer think their way free of the Brain Trust before CHEMICAL X breaks their brains for good? The explosive conclusion of this superhero mystery!

There have been and always will be superhero books, but what separates them from being simple copies is their unique aspects and this property is no different. What we have in this release is a mystery wrapped up in a conundrum that is simply full of twists and turns as the creative team slowly but surely strives to make a point out of all this.

Dennis Hopeless handles the narrative, and the scribe does an outstanding job bringing these festivities to an explosive but content end.  Are there questions left unanswered?  Absolutely.  But the key thing here is that the author allows them to be superficial to the actual plot by giving the dialogue a chance to stand on its own two feet.  There were a few times where things felt like they might be going a tad bit off the rails but for the most part this crazy saga was certainly kept in control.

The art by Mike Norton is both simple and sophisticated.  He uses his pencil strokes to elevate the context of this particular franchise while also highlighting its broad stroke bullet points with some brilliantly rendered panels.  With that said there were a couple sequences where faces seemed over exaggerated as the verbal cadence of the outlandish tale just seemed out of sync, which at times was a detriment to the overall package.

The Answer! #4 may not deliver a perfect ending to its crazy shenanigans, but it was a thoroughly entertaining romp from start to finish.  If you’re already a fan of this franchise than purchasing this book is a no-brainer, but if you’re not invested I highly suggest that you start with #1 and work your way through it.  Trust me it’s worth it. Recommended.
