SUPERMAN Is Doomed… By DOOMSDAY. Again.

Coming this May, DC COMICS will be publishing SUPERMAN DOOMED an amazing “brand new” never-before-done New 52 Superman crossover event featuring (you guessed it) a face-off between Superman and a “brand new” never-before-seen villain.

According to DC COMICS, this never-before-seen villain is called Doomsday. Why? Well, this reporter thinks it may have something to do with the villain signaling or being connected to some kind of “doomsday” event.

This new crossover event will see the mounting events that first took place in Superman/Wonder #1 last October culminate in a battle that will crossover into Superman, Action Comics and Superman/Wonder Woman.

The crossover will first start off with a one-shot titled Superman: Doomed #1, written by outgoing Superman writer, Scott Lobdell in collaboration with Action Comics writers, Greg Pak, Superman/Wonder Woman writer, Charles Soule and artist, Ken Lashley.

DC COMICS released this official description to Comic Book Resources:

Beginning the super-event you have been waiting for in The New 52: Superman vs. Doomsday in a way you’ve never seen before! And with Doomsday’s deadly new abilities, in this battle there can be no winners. The Man of Steel must unleash insane levels of power in order to do the job, only to terrify the world he’s saving. Beating Doomsday is only the beginning of this never-ending battle!

That’s right! Superman vs. Doomsday “in a way you’ve never seen before!”. My guess is that they will punch each other and punch each other until they will both likely die. In Metropolis. With lots of blood. And punching.

However, this reporter’s natural journalistic curiosities have to question how Superman Doomed is the “super-event” we “have been waiting for in The New 52” when before this announcement most people thought that the Death and Return of Superman event already happened in The New 52. Did he even die? What the hell is going on?

To answer these questions, UnleashTheFanboy sat down with Superman writer, Scott Lobdell, to get him to answer a few of my questions:*

UnleashTheFanboy: What was the driving force or motivation behind this story? Why Doomsday?

Lobdell: Superman has faced major threats before but never has he faced someone to the DEATH! HAHA!

UnleashTheFanboy: Why do you say that?

Lobdell: BECAUSE THIS IS THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN! Were we not clear about this?

UnleashTheFanboy: Well, I can’t make anything out of your cryptic messages. Can you tell me what you mean by “in this battle there can be no winners”?

Lobdell: *silence* Are you f*cking shitting me?

UnleashTheFanboy: What about “unleash insane levels powers”? What kinds of levels are we talking about here?

Lobdell: He’s going to punch Doomsday really hard.

UnleashTheFanboy: Well, we’re glad you’re trying out new ideas!
