Star Mage #1 Review

From the author of Ancient Rising, comes a brand new series, but is it worth reading? Read on to find out!

 Part One: “Darien”-JC De La Torre, author of the critically acclaimed novel Ancient Rising, gives us a new fusion of Science Fiction and Magic in Star Mage. In issue one, Darien Connors discovers he’s not from Earth, has strange magical powers and is the key in an ancient war between two alien races of necromancers. Like Harry Potter meets the Last Starfighter, Star Mage offers wizard battles with a side of spaceship warfare, alien worlds and weird creatures.

Okay, so I have read Ancient Rising and I found it to be amazing so I have high hopes for this series and I was not disappointed. The story revolves around Darien, a young man who finds out that he is special. With his special magical powers, he learns that he is the key within a battle between two groups of people from a different world. The way that this story starts out very fast and doesn’t lose steam, this works in this case. I mean you have the traditional back story working through but it doesn’t delve too far into it, which I am assuming will be brought up later. The nice thing is that the main character is secret but, also, very likable which is something you need right away. It is a great start.

I would expect anything less, from an awesome writer, which is why this series is going to be great. I mean it is something pretty great because of the way that it could develop into the future. I do have to say that I hope that it contains itself because it is a short series.

The art is very well done. The amount of abilities shown is so nicely portrayed. It flows and works with the words and there is a vast amount of things to be shown so it is fantastic.

Star Mage #1 is start to a great series that picks up much steam right away.
