“CONSEQUENCES”

Power Corrupts!  Corrupt Power Destroys!  The Next Chapter In SPAWN’s Continuing Evolution Is Here!

Having survived the first round of his showdown with the K7-Leetha, Jim seeks to make amends for past sins. But his struggle for control is only just beginning.

While Jim is distracted, his enemies continue to further their own efforts as Clown and Bludd have a showdown. And another familiar face returns in a most unexpected role…

But whose side is THE REDEEMER on?

If there’s one word to describe the experience of this comic book, than it’s got to be: wow.  We’re witnessing something special as our hero comes to terms with his struggle against his suit.  A truth that’s apparent to all, even in these dark days that are robbed of hope.

Todd McFarlane, the series creator and architect of this magnanimous odyssey has successfully taken elements from the inherent mythology and expanded them.  The author used Jim Downing as a focal point in a struggle that’s raged for over two hundred and thirty issues.  More than that he employed familiar tactics while using recognizable faces in a refreshed light.  The scribe offered up a ride that brought forth enough meat to keep interest alive and in short: the comic is more than worthwhile but not revolutionary.

The art by Szymon Kudranski is just as detailed and elegant as its been since he came aboard.  The characters each get enough attention so much so that panels, even though they’re drenched in shadows, yield true depth.  From the first page on I was captivated, especially near the end when our hero faced a question that’s been rolling around inside his head.  It’s an impressive display that’s sure to excite and entice both the dedicated as well as the curious.

Spawn #232 is an offering that does a lot to continue the momentum of the series. The overall pacing was a tad bit slow, but not enough to prevent a recommendation.
