Spider-Man 2099 #3 Review

Should there be room on your pull-list for this title? Read on to find out.

The official description from Marvel:

• Miguel’s uneasy arrangement with Alchemax lands him in a literal war zone!

• And his very existence is once again threatened when Tiberious Stone is taken hostage!

• Plus: a classic Spider-Man villain faces the future’s Spider-Man!

Spider-Man 2099 3_Variant CoverThere’s something about this property that instantly sparks a grin on my face. The creative team, from the first issue on, has brought their A game to this franchise as they continue to spin a yarn set in the present. I grew up when the first adventures of our future based hero arrived at local shops, so let me just say I’m giddy to see this webhead back in action!

Peter David keeps the core mechanics of Miguel O’Hara intact as the scribe pushes him further along his current tale. With each passing page the book is given personality in a world where Alchemex exists and a fake, but relevant, international conflict brings up some interesting issues for our Spider-Man. I absolutely enjoyed this entry as it yet again proved to be worthwhile in a post Superior era. In short: this outing stands more than ready with events and tidbits that fans will no doubt want to own and read for themselves.

The illustrations handed in by Will Sliney are deliberate and detailed, as this talent crafts a believable interpretation of the Marvel we know now. And it’s from that consistent rendition that the aged interpretation of a classic icon finds new roots in an arc that just so happens to make sense. The colors by Antonio Fabela offer a dynamic layer that completes this side of the package without missing a beat. To sum up: the book enjoys a rewarding display that’s bound to please.

Spider-Man 2099 #3 is an outstanding comic that absolutely deserves a spot on your pull-list. Add in the fact that it carried a topical discussion and this excellent serving proved to me that the people behind this iteration know exactly what they’re doing. And so this comes recommended.
