“Everything we love.”

Morning Glories 38_Preview PageThere’s a lot going on within this long running mystery series. And there are so many inquires left up in the air, the least of which, is how all these things are happening in the first pace. The creative team presses forward with little trepidation, as they unleash more context and questions on their already captivated but most assuredly confused audience. But you know what? It’s just done so well I doubt my fellow fanboys and fangirls will care.

Nick Spencer pens a text that attacks the genetic connection of father and son. The adults in the room administer an unknown cocktail that allows all of us to witness an interesting ability for Ike . He’s able to dial in to where Abraham is, and from there we see the makings of an even bigger intersection that might just have some serious ramifications for the entire franchise. There’s always been the lingering conundrum of planes of existence and even time travel, we don’t get many answers here but there were some clues within the confines of these pages. In both Morocco and the Morning Glories Academy it’s clear that there are seeds being sown.

As much as the text continues to be a source of mystery, it’s the art done by Joe Eisma that really sells the concepts that keep bubbling to the surface. I especially enjoyed the renditions of each individual player, it’s true that in lesser hands this expansive cast could get more than a bit confusing, but thanks to an illustrative birth of consistency the talent keeps all the cogs in the machine readily identifiable. The thick and thin lines do wonders but it’s the dynamic colors delivered by Paul Little that allow the whole thing to function smoothly.

Morning Glories #38 continues the build up of this second season while keeping the varied cast involved interesting. From beginning to end this comic easily comes recommended.
