The official description from Image:

The mystery is solved. But does pop-god Lucifer like the answer? The answer is a word that rhymes with “Go”, “Blow” and “Pro”. If you think the answer rhymes with “Cow” I applaud you for your unconventional nature. It’s good to experiment. We’re experimenting with being Awesome for four issues in a row. JOIN US.

The Wicked + The Divine #4 Cover BAs I sit here listening to Sympathy for the Devil, I can’t help but think of The Wicked + The Divine, and how these rockstar like Gods have captivated me. Despite initially being in two minds regarding the series, the events of the last couple of issues has quickly turned me into a fan. It is however been the more mysterious nature surrounding who framed Lucifer that has intrigued me the most, with there being little clues so far as to who it is.

Kieron Gillen does a wonderful job of progressing the story in The Wicked + The Divine #4, with Baal Hadad’s appearance, and Laura’s confrontation with the council of Gods really adding tension to this tale. It was however the dialogue within that really captivated, with Ananke words of reason, and Laura’s emotional outburst really livening things up. Gillen also ends the issue on a high as well, giving an intense sequence featuring Laura and Lucifer that has me eager for the release of The Wicked + The Divine #5, and the end of the first arc.

The artwork throughout The Wicked + The Divine never ceases to amaze, with Jamie McKelvie‘s lively visuals being the standout feature of this series. From clean, detailed pencils, to sharp inks, McKelvie really knows how to capture the eye, with the layouts being as dramatic as ever. It is however the diverse facial expressions that impress the most, with the mixture of mischievous, craziness, sternness, and anger allowing for an ever dynamic atmosphere. In addition Matthew Wilson pastel like colours, and in the case of Laura’s audience with the Gods, neon like highlights make McKelvie’s already lively art more punchy.

The Wicked + The Divine continues to thrill, with the events of this issue being both intense and exciting. Highly recommended.
