Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles New Animated Adventures #14 Review

What wacky adventures will the Turtles get up to this time? Read on to find out.

The official description from IDW:

Donatello has created a new scent in the hopes of getting April’s attention. Unfortunately it’s got the attention of all of the insects in New York City instead… including a swarm parasitic wasps! Will the Turtles be able to stop the insect hordes before everyone bug’s out?

TMNT-Animated-14_Cover-RITeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles New Animated Adventures may not be the greatest series out on the shelves, but one thing it always proves to be is fun. Delivering yet another two energetic stories, this issue sees Donatello attempt to create a pheromone enhancing chemical in an attempt to woo April, whilst Mikey tries to learn how to focus.

Landry Walker writes both tales that feature in this issue, with them both having a fun and quirky vibe about them. The way in which he captures each characters personality, whilst throwing them into a dramatic situation makes it hard not to love these tales, with the charm of the characters shining through. The event of both stories do however escalate a little too quickly for my liking, and though this is needed to allow two exciting stories to fit in the page count, it does affect the overall experience slightly.

Chad Thomas handles the artwork on the opening story, with Marcelo Ferreira working on the secondary. Both artists who have worked on the series prior give a very fun and quirky vibe to the issue, with their energetic layouts giving wonderful tone. The thing I enjoy most however is the way they capture the likeness from the Nickelodeon series, as though most of the rotating artists manage this, it’s still very impressive. Series colourist Heather Breckel also as ever does a fabulous job, with her vibrant palette giving the perfect finish.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles New Animated Adventures remains a fun and exciting series and is well worth the read. Recommended.
