Tech Jacket #3 Review

What kind of trouble has Zack got himself into now? Read on to find out.

The official description from Image:

The champion of the Colossus emerges to challenge Tech Jacket, while the President of the United States (you know who!) receives council from a strange advisor.

Tech Jacket #3 previewTech Jacket‘s last issue ended on a gripping climax. This is something that comics tend to do very well (especially Image), but the aftermath of these sensational moments often prove that underwhelming that it spoils the original moment altogether. Tech Jacket #3 is however among the few that do this well, with our main character Zack handling the situation in a fun and exciting manor.

Joe Keatinge has been doing a brilliant job of bringing Tech Jacket back into the centrefold of Image, as though this ongoing series has yet to astound me, it has constantly been fun. Keatinge does however step his game up in this issue, taking the fun, exciting atmosphere that makes the series so enjoyable, and timesing it tenfold. The quick witted dialogue, and intense action gives a real sense of impact to the issue, with the developments back on Earth also being tantalisingly enthralling. Despite being breathtaking, the action did feel one sided, and though this shows the awesomeness of Zack, it did retract slightly from the overall impact.

The art over the course of these first three issues has proved to be very diverse, having a lighthearted tone, whilst at the same time giving brutal, bloody action. The talent behind this is former Static Shock cover artist Khary Randolph, who’s been working alongside Keatinge since the three part digital series. The way in which he delivers explosive energy and intense action, whilst also giving tons of emotion really helps to build on his ever changing atmosphere, and along with Dave McCaig‘s vibrant colours it really helps this story pop out.

Tech Jacket is really starting to heat up, with the action and developments in this issue making it a must read. Highly recommended.
