Supreme Blue Rose #3 previewSupreme: Blue Rose continues to be a crazy, mysterious tale, re-invigorating the classic world of Supreme brilliantly. Starting of in a dream like state, main character Diana Dane remains the key focus of this series, with her search for Ethan Crane taking her to Littlehaven. Meanwhile Darius Dax confronts the mysterious red haired woman, in what was a grippingly curious exchange of words.

Warren Ellis has produced astounding script after another over the three issues that have been released so far, showing a great understanding of the characters, whilst at the same time creating something fresh. What I loved most about Ellis’ writing in this issue was the way he allowed the reader to query what was real, and what wasn’t, with Diana’s sanity being a very ambiguous point. Despite all this, there were times when things felt a little too weird, as though the strange vibe has been what I’ve enjoyed most about this series, I felt it was laid on a little too thick at times.

Though Supreme has had it’s fair share of amazing artists over the years, I don’t think it has had any that can top the work that Tula Lotay has produced. Her highly detailed pencils, and delicately thin inks allows for a intense and realistic look for the series. In addition her soft, wisping colours, and cinematic layouts also give a smooth, elegant flow that compliments her majestic art perfectly. Despite all this, it’s the scenery that captivates me the most, as whether it’s the awe inspiring Moon, or just plain buildings, the sheer scope proves very eye catching to say the least.

Supreme: Blue Rose continues to be a must read for this fanboy, as though there are times where it feels a little too crazy, the wacky style of this story has me firmly hooked for future issues. Highly recommended.
