Grimm Fairy Tales presents Inferno: Rings of Hell #3 Review

Is there enough narrative material left here to set the world on fire? Read on to find out.

The official description from Zenescope:

Lucifer and Mercy fight their way through the rings of hell and the Dark queen presumes them dead. As the Queen turns her gaze back to ruling the realms, it’s revealed that Lucifer and Mercy are alive and making their way towards the ninth ring and its unimaginable warriors.

GFT Inferon-Rings of Hell 3_Variant CoverI have to hand it to the creative team, they’ve delivered a three issue mini-series that explored some rather disturbing depths and even made room for a personal glimpse at the mostly hidden inner emotions of the Dark One. Malec was, a long time ago, a man with a worthwhile heart and who knew that this current iteration of evil was capable of something more than he currently is? And that right there is what made this entry more than worthwhile.

Joe Brusha and Ralph Tedesco work with script writer Mike Wolfer to realize the final moments of an adventure that took Lucier and Mercy Dante through the nine rings of Hell. During their struggle for freedom we saw an author that was ready to give his audience something more meaty than a simple plot, as the text focused on the push and pull of alliances. Through that stomping ground we saw quite a bit of development in a rather short amount of time.

The visuals handed in by Fernando Argosino from the first page to the final panel captured the essence of the players invovled. Consistent pencil strokes and a sharp eye for detail made this fiery corner of the GFT universe feel relevant as it engaged even the most discerning eye. The colors by Claudinei Ribeiro kept the proceedings sharp, even if there were a few minor inconsistencies here and there.

Grimm Fairy Tales presents Inferno: Rings of Hell #3 succeeds with a scribe that used every sentence and word to convey something more than I think many fanboys and fangirls were honestly expecting. And for that reason this mini-series and its final issue earn a recommendation.
