Morning Glories #36 Review

Morning Glories Banner

It’s been a long and certainly confusing road for the students at the Morning Glories Academy, but should we really care what happens next with these particular child protagonists? Read on to find out.

“Welcoming Committee”

Morning Glories 36_CI’m going to start off by stating the obvious, this comic book franchise is not going to be for everyone. It’s disturbing and somewhat awkward as it intentionally leads its audience without showing too many of the creative team’s intimate cards. The end result can be frustrating, as each issue reveals a bit more but holds back in an effort to deliver yet another hook that may or may not get you to come back for another month of intrigue.

I’m sure we’ve all sat back at one point or another and wondered where we came for. For one student he knows which doctor he can blame, and as we get to view his young life from a specific perspective the series scribe, Nick Spencer, makes use of angst in order to properly build up something that feels key to this second season. The bulk of the text flowed properly, but I did find that a couple panels dragged as we all steadily moved toward yet another shocking cliffhanger. In short: what we hold in our hands here is a truly good jaunt that warrants attention.

The art by Joe Eisma is still just as potent as it has been. The talent knows exactly how to approach each situation, while not sacrificing the familiar elements that help keep this odyssey somewhat grounded. There are imperfections as overly static forms and a lack of background detail can leave some members of the audience a tad underwhelmed. But in my opinion I found the work to be fitting, as yet another romp came to a shattering close. To sum up: there are inconsistencies but nothing that really detracts from the whole

Morning Glories #36 is an example of finely tuned comic. But there are hiccups which prevent it from soaring to new heights, even as the final reveal caught my attention. Recommended.

I never cared for Ian until this issue. The last page was a pure WTF moment for me.
