DC Comics to Release Comic Book Prequel for Injustice Fighting Game

DC’s upcoming fighting video game, Injustice: Gods Among Us, will be getting the prequel comic book tie-in treatment! Beginning tomorrow, January 15th, 10 pages will be available on the DC Comics app (which can be viewed on the iOS, Kindle Store, Android, and other devices) for only .99 cents. Each chapter will be released on subsequent Tuesdays, also .99 cents each. The print version will be released on the last Wednesday of every month, and contains 3 chapters each. There will also be a “collector’s edition” of the video game brings the first six chapters.

The comic tie-in takes place five years before the events of the video game. The plot will reportedly be “torturous” and “tragic” but “starts in a very happy place”. The comic will be violent, and not suitable for kids. The tie-in will NOT be canon to the main universe.

Various characters who will appear in the mini-series include Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Green Arrow, Harley Quinn, and Cyborg. The comic is being written by Tom Taylor (Star Wars: Invasion), and the various artists include Jheremy Raapack (Legends of the Dark Knight), Mike S. Miller (DC Universe Online Legends), Axel Giminez (Superman: Reign of Doomsday), and Bruno Redondo (Push).

The Injustice: Gods Among Us video game will be released April 2013 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii U systems. Anyway, I think this is a smart idea. Since they probably don’t have time to flesh out the plot in the video game, they can use the comic for that.
