PLAYSTATION 4 Price and Release Date Leaked? Sony To Hire A New Plumber?!

In the last few years it’s hard to think of any major announcement Sony have made that hasn’t been leaked/rumored/out-right released ahead of time. There have already been myriad rumors swirling around the highly anticipated Sony event tomorrow on February 20th.

The event is said to talk about the “future of Playstation”, of course this could be the announcement of a new advert (cough Michael cough) but it seems 99% sure that it’s going to be the announcement of the Playstation 4, the Orbis, whatever they’re calling the thing.

Adding to that already boiling pot of speculation is that tasty, if potentially unreliable, spice of Kotaku’s sources claiming there will be two SKU’s planned that Sony will put on the market “at $429 and $529, but that could change.”  This is the company that told you to get a second job to afford the $600 Playstation 3 remember.

Both SKU’s are supposedly going to be ready to hit North American shelves in November 2013. On top of the supposed leaked images of the new PS4 controller, featuring a Vita style touch screen and Move sensor on the top, Kotaku’s sources have this to say:

You’ll also be able to control the PS4 remotely from your tablet or smartphone. You’ll be able to use a mobile device to chat with your PS4 friends or buy games which are then automatically downloaded to your machine, our source says.

Every PS4 will come with a PlayStation Eye; that a new spectating feature will let you watch other friends play games from your console’s dashboard, even when you don’t own the game they’re playing; and that the console will support local network play via Vita.

“Most” of the PS4’s online features will require a premium subscription to use. Sony’s new online service will be called PlayStation World, our source says, replacing PlayStation Plus.

This be a load of codswallop (what a word!) but things such as Sony’s move to make the PSN store compatible with browsers and the domain registration for Playstation Cloud puts these rumors in the realm of possibility. Right now, we have no idea what’s going on but keep your eyes peeled to UtF at 2pm Pacific (5pm Eastern, 10pm UK) as the news breaks!

It’s been years and years (WiiU aside) since we’ve had a battle between the announcements of Next Gen Consoles, so get ready to sit back and watch the fan wars rage!

Meanwhile this mysterious man has been seen skulking around Sony HQ, hopefully he can fix the problem they’ve been having with the leaks…
