The identity of the voice and performance actress of Lara Croft in the upcoming reboot Tomb Raider has been a bit of a mystery for quite a while. After seeing a couple of trailers from this year’s E3, we knew an actress had been cast, but we didn’t know who. (And you just know what’s coming next.) Until now. Square Enix Ltd., publisher of all the Tomb Raider games, revealed that English actress Camilla Luddington (star of True Blood and William and Kate, a movie I’d never heard of until I did a bit of research for this article) has won the coveted role of Lara Croft in the reboot.
Out of the dozens of voice actresses from across the world, Luddington was picked for her depth of emotion and youthful tone (pretty essential, now that Lara Croft’s back in her twenties). Darrell Gallagher, head of Crystal Dynamics, said: “This has been one of the most important jobs for us to get right. “This Tomb Raider game is very different to any other and we are demanding far more from the voice and performance acting than ever before as we take the franchise in a new direction.”
Luddington will be participating in the Nerd HQ panel at San Diego Comic-Con next month, where she’ll be joined by the development team and will be chatting about the game.
