Yara Greyjoy is Back in GAME OF THRONES Season 6!

It’s been a while since we last saw Yara Greyjoy. She popped up in Season 4 in a horrendously-bad sequence where she and the “best” Ironborn soldiers showed up at the Dreadfort to free Theon and then got chased back by a bunch of dogs and a shirtless Ramsay – some more high-quality writing and filmmaking from the Game of Thrones writing team. Truthfully, the Greyjoys are a family which D&D have never really seemed to care about or enjoy writing for. I enjoyed the scenes on the Iron Islands back in Season 2 but since then they have appeared sparsely, and it feels like Balon’s death has been something which they wrote on a post-it note that got accidentally binned by an intern.

However, the storyline is finally getting picked back up next season as we know that the Greyjoys are back thanks to a photograph with a very lucky fan. Watchers on the Wall has some updates regarding cast members showing up in Belfast. The usuals are all there; Maisie Williams, Sophie Turner, Emilia Clarke, Alfie Allen… but no Kit Harington, sadly. Hidden at the bottom of the article is a photograph taken by a fan at the airport with John Bradley (Sam), Tom Wlaschiha (Jaqen H’ghar), Jacob Anderson (Grey Worm) and Gemma Whelan, who plays Yara Greyjoy!

This cements the rumours that the Greyjoys would be back in Season 6; about a month or so ago a casting call leaked with a role description for a character who sounds exactly like Balon Greyjoy’s brother, Euron.

Pirate, man in his 40’s to late 50’s. He’s “an infamous pirate who has terrorized seas all around the world. Cunning, ruthless, with a touch of madness.” He’s a dangerous-looking man. A very good part this season.

Yeah, it’s Euron.

Now we know that the Greyjoys are definitely back, it begs the question of what they’ll be doing. Yara is nowhere near where her book counterpart is at the moment but I imagine it’ll be adapting the upcoming Iron Islands material from The Winds of Winter – just changing a ton of it, for better or worse.
