Will The Doctor Go Up Against Sherlock For Doctor Who’s 50 Anniversary?

I’m going to start off by saying that I’m a massive Doctor Who fan. I’ve loved the show since it’s reboot in 2005 and still love it to this day. I’m also a massive fan of the successful modern re-invention of Sherlock Holmes, in a show titled Sherlock. The guy in the titular role, Benedict Cumberbatch, has as you will say, “cracked America”. He was in War Horse, will voice the dragon Smaug in both parts of The Hobbit and is playing the as-yet-unknown villain in Star Trek 2. According to a report in The Daily Express from an unnamed source, Cumberbatch will embody the next incarnation of The Doctor’s arch nemesis The Master in the show’s 50 anniversary, which is about a year and a half away now (time flies so fast!). This isn’t the first time this rumor has been reported – He was even linked to the role of the Eleventh Doctor before Matt Smith took on the role.

“It’s fitting that the Doctor comes face to face with his ultimate enemy, The Master, for the 50th anniversary and it’s felt Benedict is the perfect choice if schedules can work,” we’re told. “Fans will love the idea of the man who plays Sherlock Holmes taking on the Doctor’’.

“Benedict has often been asked about whether he would like to play the Doctor so it will be ironic if he now
ends up being The Master instead”.
