TERMINATOR GENISYS, is there any HOPE for the FUTURE?

Right now I’m just a kid standing in front of a computer with a big sloppy smile on my face, do you know why? Because we got our first glimpse of Terminator Genisys today!

Now I know there hasn’t been a whole lot to get excited for as yet another entry in this apparently unstoppable franchise barrels toward completion. But I have hope that there can be a good sequel following in the footsteps of T2, while this property offers up something that resonates with its fans.

When Rise of the Machines arrived I, like many of you, plopped down to watch something that failed to leave a mark. It was a solid picture but it retreaded familiar territory while relying on an overabundance of unnecessary comedy. Then Salvation, a flick that made the attempt to go beyond the shaky foundations found in T3 stumbled out of the gate as it tried so hard and just never reached the right quality level to make a good Terminator outing.

Time has passed and a new creative team has taken the reigns in a franchise that’s survived through novels, comics, a fondly remembered TV Show (R.I.P. The Sarah Connor Chronicles) and a few video games. But the time is right, Arnold Schwarzenegger is in and the new cast offers an edge while giving us some familiar tropes, kind of like Star Trek. I know that comparison is made a lot but it’s apt to what’s happening here.

Emilia Clarke is stepping into, arguably, one of the most famous female bad-asses of all time as we get to finally have Sarah Connor on the big screen again. Jason Clarke wowed me with Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and I can’t wait to see him define a character that was slightly tarnished by a Batman type performance, courtesy of Christian Bale. Jai Courtney is primed to replace Michael Biehn as Kyle Reese, though I’ll admit I’m not sure how I feel about that, but hey Matt Smith is in it!

To sum up, I’m cautiously excited for the trailer and I want it to rock but what do my fellow fanboys and fangirls think? Is 2015 the year of the Terminator? Or is this sequel a big mistake?
