Merry Christmas from the Teen Titans Go!

As we all know, all comedy/sitcom shows eventually have at least one Christmas episode. Some range from really good to really sappy. How was this one?

The Titans all really love Christmas. Apparently, it is their favorite day of the year. So much so, that the day after Christmas, most of the team are depressed. Can Christmas really be over so soon? However, Beast Boy (Greg Cipes), Cyborg (Khary Payton), and Raven (Tara Strong) manage to trick the naïve Starfire (Hynden Walch) into believing that there is such a thing as a “Second Christmas”.

Starfire becomes immensely excited, and even that stick-in-the-mud Robin (Scott Menville) can’t stop her happiness. But can Robin convince her that her team-mates are lying?

This is a feel-good episode, if ever there was one. Seeing the Titans enjoying Christmas so much will make you smile, and admit it, we’ve all felt the after Christmas blues, which is why we can sympathize with the Titans for getting upset for having to wait another year for the holiday.

Starfire is the most likeable character. She, of course, has always been childlike, and that includes her belief in Santa. In one scene, she decorates the Titan’s tower, and the look on her face is adorable.

I guess that would lead me to my one negative. The episode just isn’t really that funny, seemingly more content to build Christmas atmosphere than to build up the laughs. Not that there aren’t any funny scenes. When the Titans are explaining to Starfire about Second Christmas, they mention how there is also a Second Santa Claus, who is thin, and has no beard, and other changes to ensure that he is the exact opposite. It makes for an interesting image.

But….the lack of comedy didn’t bother me too much. In my opinion, it may have been for the best. Too much comedy may have just wrecked the over-all spirit of things. And it was still enjoyable. I would recommend it.

Happy Holidays to all.
