SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN Arrives on BLU-RAY!

Many Spider-Man fans will tell you that the current Spider-Man show, Ultimate Spider-Man, is a load of web-fluid garbage. A shame, since just a few years ago, we had the fan-favorite and critically acclaimed Spectacular Spider-Man animated series. Unfortunately, as with many great things, it was cancelled after only two seasons, while Ultimate‘s third season will be premiering this year. No justice, huh?

To add insult to injury, Spectacular only ever got a mediocre DVD release, and barely. The last few volumes almost felt…like Sony was begrudgingly putting them in stores. However…Sony will be able to rectify that!

Presumably to help market The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Sony will be releasing a complete Spectacular Spider-Man Blu-ray set. You read right: Blu-ray!

I should stress: this is NOT confirmed yet by Sony. However, Amazon has a listing for the product, set to be released on April 22, which is close to the film’s release date. Amazon rarely makes mistakes like that, so I am giving them the benefit of the doubt.

Unfortunately for people hoping for lots and lots of extra, bonus stuff, it seems we’ll only be getting the bare minimum!  But that is probably a small price to pay for getting a quality cartoon on Blu-ray! Now I just need Disney to release X-Men: Evolution in a Blu-ray set…

Spectacular Spider-Man, helmed by Greg Weisman (Young Justice, Gargoyles) premiered March 2008 on Kids’ WB, before moving to Disney XD, getting two seasons and 26 episodes. IGN awarded it “Best Animated Series” in 2008 and 2009.

So…think you’ll buy this in time for the movie?
